ATLANTIS

Our city is sinking
The flood is what binds us
We're building a castle from sodden detritus
That washes up on Pacific Coast Highway
Now wrapped in long tendrils
Of stargrass I tremble
Memories of mountains and fire so ephemeral
And, drowning, I cling to the last buoyant rock in LA

When suddenly
I hear the call of the sea
A song from beyond the pillars of Heracles
Atlantis

All that I want sank with Chateau Marmont
In the flood of '03
No longer will I wait for my illustrious fate
When Atlas calls to me

Oh, the hubris of a dream
The weight of ecstasy
Proved too much for fickle land to bear
Now ancient emerald shores
Of ancient myth and lore
Are beckoning and I'm no longer scared
So current take me down
I'm not afraid to drown
In fact I'd be enchanted
For I will be made whole in Atlantis

Saw Regina Spektor hit by Capitol Records
The tower tumbling down as waves overswept her
And gazed at my demos awash in the unopened mail
Heard the Santa Anas wail like Santana
Found drift wood by Fred 62
As I built a small raft
A trust fund in a mustache laughed, "Well, what a strange thing to do!"

But I ride on and make for the isle of Poseidon
Though priests and prophets claim its glory is long gone
Atlantis

Oh, the stark plasticity of human entity
Tore the San Andreas like old silk
Now I'm sinking low into the undertow
That's carrying me towards my kind, my ilk
Goodbye to the bars and sunken reservoirs
Midwesterners transplanted
For I am going home to Atlantis
